Our plumbers have been heard saying things such as "I'm just a guy, please don't expect me to know what you want to look at on your kitchen sink. I don't want you to hate me if I buy the wrong thing!" But honestly, we are not you, we don't know what you want to look at and use day after day and our plumbers are definitely not designers (although we know a GREAT one if you would like one!). 

We highly recommend that if you even think that you need a new sink faucet or plumbing fixture for your home or office that you purchase it and have it available when our plumber arrives. If the existing one is repairable, we can do that, but this way you're ready for a replacement if necessary.

Pretty Faucets vs Pretty Amazing

Some brands of faucets and fixtures are pretty, but when it comes to function, reparability and warranty they are not pretty awesome. Our favorite faucet brands are Moen and Delta. We won't shun you if you buy something else, but when it comes to ease of residential or commercial repair of your nearly new faucet, these are the easiest and most economical to fix. Moen has one of the best warranties we've ever seen in the industry. So if you need a faucet for your business, a rental home or have a family that tends to be rough on your kitchen sink, this is something to consider.

Shower valves are NOT all created equally!

What you see on your shower wall is a shower head and a handle. Those are referred to as 'trim'. The trim is superficial; all of the working goods are inside and behind the walls. The valves and cartridges do all of the work. If your 'shower head' is dripping, it's not the poor shower head's fault, the culprit is actually the cartridge or the valve. The valve and the cartridge have to match the trim. Most people don't realize this and will go out and buy trim that they like, but is incompatible with the plumbing hardware in the wall.

Replacing the entire shower valve usually involves removing tile or opening drywall on the opposite wall. So when it comes to shower handles, trim, cartridges and valves, it's not a bad idea to just wait for the professional to come and take a look.
